Director Rodrigo Reyes presents a predominantly documentary film, but is a hybrid that mixes nonfiction and fiction. The nonfictional narration discusses Mexico's history amidst a legacy of colonialism at the hands of Spanish colonizers headed by Hernán Cortés, whose army changed the shape and face of this nation that once seated the Aztec Empire. The film adds a fictional element in the form of a former Cortés soldier (Eduardo San Juan) transported to modern-day Mexico, where he walks and inspects the results of their conquest 499 years later. ~ Olivia Cantor
