CRAZY
is the second mini-album from the
LE SSERAFIM
girls released in 2024, following the snappy
EASY
. A notably more foot-forward release, the project opens in the realm of the nocturnal and electronic -- "Chasing Lightning" and "Crazy" play out like catwalk soundtracks, embracing a "high fashion" EDM sound with pounding drumlines and dismissive vocal chops. The most notable pivot here is toward the talk-sing style that has crept into the pop zeitgeist again in 2024; lead single "Crazy" chops each member's "all the girls are girling" into a glitchy chorus destined to become a club staple, while the all-English "1-800-hot-n-fun" is a collage of drawling "where the heck is Saki?"s and club-night boasts. The trappy "Pierrot" borrows the brighter trap sound of 2024's "Easy" for its uplifting mantra of "that's my girl," while closer "Crazier" acts like the bus ride home from the club, steeping its more traditional ballad sound in the girls' doubts and fears. ~ David Crone
