It is AD 60, Judea. When Julius Vagus, an officer in the Roman army, is given an order he can't refuse, he doesn't know it will forever change his life.
Told to arrest a controversial preacher of the Way who has been stirring up trouble in Jerusalem and the provinces, he finds himself guarding this religious man. His prisoner-a man formerly known as Saul, now going by Paul-is a radical proponent of Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified twenty-seven years earlier. Some flock to the man Paul, and some speak out against him. Then Julius is assigned to accompany his prisoner on a dangerous journey to Rome, he is in for an adventure he hadn't planned on.
While Julius is on a dangerous overland and sea journey, he is also dealing with unresolved family issues. But primarily he is on a spiritual journey to a faith in Jesus Christ he doesn't yet know he needs. Will Julius find restoration of the broken relationship with his father and family? Will he survive the tempest and shipwreck while delivering his notorious prisoner? Will he realize his need of forgiveness through Jesus Christ and find inner peace-even if it jeopardizes his standing in the Legion?
