Excerpt from A Collection of Poems, Vol. 6 of 6 3 Dr. Mark Akenfide was born on the 9th of November, 1721, at fiewcafile upon Tyne. His father Mark was a butcher of the Pref byterian Sect. He received the firfi part of his education at the gram mar fchool of Newcafile, and was afterwards infirufied by Mr. Wilfon, who kept a private academy. Being intended for the oflice of a D35 renting minifler, he was (cut at the age of eighteen years to Edinburgh 3 but, altering his firfi defign, he turned his application to the Rudy of phyfick, which he afterwards continued at Leyden, where he took his degree of Dofior on the 16th of May, He firfi prafiifed in his profeflion at Northampton, from whence he removed to Hampfiead, and afterwards to Londah. He was chofcn Fellow of the Royal Society; became a phyfician to St. Thomas's Hofpital; was admitted by manda mus to the degree of Doélor of Phyfic in the uniwerlity of Cambridge, and was eleéled a Fellow of the Royal College of Phyficians m London. Upon the Settlement of the (lu'een' s houfehold he was appoigted one of the phylicians to her Majel'ty.
