Homeland Security Special Agent Akicita "Aki" Dawson is hunting an international assassin who has managed to elude capture in Europe.
Former Sheriff's Lieutenant Graynger Holt is on his way to a new job as a pilot in South Dakota for the Department of Interior, and becomes involved in a mystery surrounding two homicides in Wyoming. He joins a Wyoming DCI task force as a temporary agent, and the investigation leads him to the Black Hills.
Mystical and mysterious events unfold as Holt and Dawson join forces to capture the assassin and solve the murders. They soon discover that there is much more going on in the Black Hills than expected, and quickly realize that an ancient Native American legend may not just be folklore.
