Henry and Martha Garrison, along with their two sons Benjamin and William, are originally from Woodbury, New York. Henry has been a lifelong friend of Clarence Astor - a 19th century multimillionaire - who has made his money in the coal mining business. While Henry is in town visiting, Clarence offers to sell one of his coal mines to him. In time, Henry finds success fueling his desire to leave New York and relocate his family to the majestic countryside of Westminster, Maryland, to put down roots. Not long after arriving, Benjamin and William find themselves in the company of a beautiful young maid employed at the Astor's estate by the name of Sarah Ann Miller. They quickly find themselves both attracted to her and begin competing for her heart. Although Benjamin is more in line with Sarah's age, his younger brother William feels as though he is just as suitable as his older brother, and tries competing for her attention and heart as well. Will either one win Sarah's heart? Does she find true love or is she destined to spend her life as a mere lady's maid? And could some unexpected news in a letter jeopardize her longing for love? Only time will tell if her story will be one of heartache or one of true love.
