Ayal is an orphan in the Theral Wastes, clanless and left to fend for herself. Sil is a student at the famed University in Palanth, already bored with his magical education. Though they live in opposite worlds, the threat of a long buried malevolence leads both to struggle under the burden of uninvited responsibilities and frightening power. As their lives veer toward explosive outcomes, Ayal and Sil must learn to control their Depth and Light - the very fabric and foundation of chaos and order in the world - in order to stop Azaroth's deadly scheme.
