A Year in Japan
Artist Louise Forbush's love affair with handmade paper began during a residency in Japan, where the materials she collected inspired the decades of collage work that followed. This volume gathers together impressions of that year spent abroad. While working from her Mill Valley, California, studio in later years, Forbush accented her collages with calligraphy, gold leaf, scraps of fabrics, bits of reed, worn woods, and other found materials. These objects suggested hidden histories that intrigued the artist. Now, Forbush shares a glimpse of her own history by layering and juxtaposing brief, treasured memories. The result is a unique piece of art.
