One of the founding members of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood,
Dante Gabriel Rossetti
was a gifted painter and poet. Along with his co-founders William Holman Hunt and John Everett Millais, he had wanted to bring about change in the art world. This was one of the final paintings executed by Rossetti, and the model for the work was Jane Morris, estranged wife of the designer William Morris.
