Things get much harder and more tangled in book 2.
Brandi has to juggle her work relationship with Connor even though she's so attracted to him and his personality. This opens way for a plethora of awkward and humorous close calls. Like in conversation she accidentally mentions things to Connor that were revealed to her only in the catfish relationship (as Cecilia), so Connor questions how she knows that info. At times, He decides to call his catfish girlfriend, and her phone starts ringing at the same time.
Connor and Brandie finally exchange I Love You's, even though Connor can't believe he feels this strongly for someone he's never met. He becomes very adamant about meeting his virtual girlfriend in person or video chatting and Brandie always has to quickly come up with an excuse. A lot of them seem farfetched and just adds to the piles of lies that she has to remember.
She agrees to meet up and Connor is so excited. They set a date, time and place but she doesn't show or answer his phone calls or texts. Instead, she tells him later that she was on her way but got into a car accident and is in the hospital. He wants to visit her and be there for her but she refuses to let him see her in this bad condition at their first meeting. But because they also work together, Brandie can see firsthand how her lies are affecting him and she battles her feelings of wanting to tell him the truth, hoping that his feelings still remain. Meanwhile, Brandie also has to hide the fact that she's still talking to Connor from Morgan who believes that the catfish game has ended. They had deleted the fake social media account and Brandie expressed that she's glad they were done with it - even though she's not done. She feels like she's in quicksand trying to keep her relationship a secret from so many people. She could crack under the pressure at any moment and she nearly does...
