Presents findings from a Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) study of US military culture, looking at its norms, values, and traditions, and at the services' abilities to adapt to environmental stress and the demands of the 21st century. Some 12,000 uniformed personnel were surveyed at 32 locations in the US, Korea, Hawaii, and Europe. Results of the survey point to serious problems with overwork, leadership inadequacy, micromanagement, insufficiency of pay and benefits, and inadequate training resources.
