Ancient Monuments of the United States is a brief survey of the remains of Native American Fortifications, Places of Worship, Sepulchral Mounds and other remains of the civilization that occupied the Eastern Seaboard and Mississippi Valley prior to European Colonization. This brief survey covers artifacts that predate the discovery, some of which are are no longer extant. This text is taken from the 1868 serialization. E. G. Squier was a leading archeologist during the mid 19th century. Born in 1821, he extensively studied American Indian Artifacts as well as the Inca Civilization in Peru and Bolivia. He died in 1888.
