April and Rick Dobbs have traveled to Uganda for more than eleven years. "We had no intention of ever going to Africa," said April. "We were called by our church in Roseville, California to go and help establish a connection with our sister church in Uganda." There could not be two better persons to make that connection, and then some. These two rose to the challenge and have been instrumental in gathering the support necessary for the formation and building of the Twinomujuni Children's Home, the Roseville Preparatory School, plus the Joseph House for the Elderly. All in Kabale, Uganda. During their lengthy visits every year, they've shared their lives with new friends and many children, making sure each child has clothing, good food, physical exams, dental care, a good education, and most importantly, love and a family atmosphere. They have infused their relationships with tales and images of their life in California and the USA, for the kids and others to hear and see, thus sparking an interest in new ways of living outside the traditional village model, hoping these children will become forward-thinking leaders in Uganda. The children adore April and Rick and the feeling is mutual. This is a wonderful story, full of unexpected humor at the situations in which they found themselves. This illustrated book recounts the fun and not-so-fun adventures, and the beautiful, majestic scenery. The cultural differences at times seemed as if life was being lived on another planet. We take running water and electricity in houses for granted, and when our internet in the USA goes down, even for a short time, well, life is over.....we don't know how to act! April presents a wholesome, humorous look at life in Uganda. This book is a sequel to her first book, Twinomujuni: The Uganda Chronicles; both are written in journal entry format. In this way we see through her eyes the events as these happened. It seems we are right THERE with her and Rick. In this whole process, April and Rick have opened the hearts of people, churches and communities on both sides of the world, 10,000 miles apart. In the end, the differences between us are not that great as we are all people of Earth; we are the children of God. This book is an inspiration! It shows that no matter what, one or two persons can make a tremendous difference in this world. If the Spirit leads you, if you find yourself unexpectedly in Uganda, this just may be THE book to read and share.
