The purpose of this United States Army manual, Army Techniques Publication ATP 4-02.43 Army Health Support to Army Special Operations Forces August 2023, is to provide doctrine in support of Army special operations forces as part of the protection and sustainment warfighting functions in support of multidomain operations. Army special operations forces are those Active Component and Reserve Component Army forces designated by the Secretary of Defense that are specifically organized, trained, and equipped to conduct and support special operations (JP 3-05). Army special operations forces consist of special forces, special mission units, Rangers, civil affairs, psychological operations, Army special operations aviation forces, and a sustainment brigade. These forces are assigned to the United States Army Special Operations Command. This publication also discusses joint special operations and provides a limited discussion of other Services capabilities.
The principal audience for this publication includes commanders and their staff at all levels to provide a universal understanding of how the Army Health System must function to support Army special operations forces.
Army Techniques Publication 4-02.43 implements agreement between the United States Army, other Services and armies, or other governmental agencies of an ally or potential coalition partner that specifically contributes to compatibility of multinational medical support.
