Avoyelles Parish men formed several military units during the Civil War. They also made up a large portion of the 18th Louisiana Infantry Regiment.
The 18th saw action in Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama before returning to Louisiana.
They were one of regiments which made up General Mouton's Army during the Red River Campaign, which brought them right back to their home territory in Avoyelles Parish.
This book tells a little of their story as well as lists the soldiers from or with strong ties to Avoyelles who were in the 18th Regiment.
