Oboist Neal Bryan, now 60, is ill and dying, and wants nothing more than to leave his loved ones at peace, with their lives in as much order as he himself can arrange. He will heal the rift between himself and his son, Aidan, prepare his son's partner, Luc, to stand on his own musically, and guide his own partner, Tamlin, to accept his fast-approaching end - or so he believes.
Though Neal has grown in many ways over the years since meeting Tamlin, he has yet to accept that the self-planned itinerary for one's life journey rarely matches the one ordained by God.
