The post-war history of Europe in all Communist countries after 1948 witnessed a Moscow-driven attack on the Catholic Church in an attempt to destroy the religious congregations of women and men who were involved in education and health care. This is the story of one such group, the Brothers of the Christian Schools or De La Salle Brothers. It tells of the systematic suppression of their schools and educational works in Romania, Hungary and the then-Czechoslovakia, told through the translation into English of the written accounts of some of the survivors. It is a human story of courage and of the strength of an international brotherhood.
