Camp Theodore Roosevelt had two distinctions: it was America's first Boy Scout camp. Camp Theodore Roosevelt opened in 1914 and survived until 1967.
The heyday of scouting, by pure numbers, was in the 1950s. This story of summer camp 1955 is a collection of directors, caretakers, medics, kitchen staff, and rifle instructors, aided by thirty-five senior Scouts, some high school students named counselors in training but most were in college or college-bound. The staff and local Boy Scout troops brought the camp to life. Roosevelt welcomed ten Boy Scout troops every week from the middle of June until mid-August.
