La leucemia linfoblástica aguda (LLA) es la enfermedad que mayor incidencia tiene en niños en edad preescolar. Dicha enfermedad consiste en la proliferación incontrolada de células hematopoyéticas. Es considerada una enfermedad grave, que amenaza la vida del niño que la padece, aunque actualmente el pronóstico es cada vez más favorable. La gravedad de la enfermedad genera en el niño y en su familia múltiples y distintas reacciones emocionales, como incertidumbre, ansiedad, miedo o culpa entre otras. Cada etapa de la enfermedad tiene un impacto diferente en el niño y familia a nivel psicológico. Este daño psicológico, depende también de la edad, la red de apoyo, el conocimiento de la familia sobre la propia enfermedad, o el pronóstico de la misma. Es importante conocer la percepción de cada niño y familia para ayudarlos en el afrontamiento de la enfermedad, a lo largo de las distintas fases. Las intervenciones de enfermería serán distintas en cada una de esas etapas, y vitales para la adaptación del niño y la familia a la nueva situación.
