Historical documentation for the Life- Saving Station has come from three main sources- - the log books of the Cape Lookout Life- Saving Station, 1888- 1942;1 the park's collection of maps and drawings from the Coast Guard's archives, including plat maps of the station in 1893, 1917, 1920, 1922, 1934, 1938, and 1958; and the park's collection of historic photographs. All of the log books have been scanned for relevant information, but continued research in Coast Guard records could provide additional important documentation for this building. Especially useful might be correspondence and other files of the Life- Saving Service and Coast Guard, as well as that of the Navy for the period 1919- 1946.
