The Cast quintet - fifth and final part. This is a story about three cottages. They sit adjacent in an isolated lane in North Wales. In their time they have had many occupants, some of them have left of their own free will, and some of them... haven't. The first book replicates the immediate existence of our four main protagonists, who, for the first few pages, are very much two dimensional until Dogleg Lane and its three cottages stamp their illogical influence upon them. The four subsequent books follow them and other characters that get involved as they attempt to overcome the irrationalities and the body count that the cottages inspire. At the outset of Typecast by Booker Woodman the reader is unsure who the initial characters are, where they are and what is happening around them. It is not too long before we find out some of the answers. They are soon involved with several deaths, deaths that have been recorded over a period of many years, some of them achieved by malicious intent and others by mysterious events, but none of them resulting in convictions. The storyline has developed some charismatic characters, Peece and Reece, Fitz Ffastt, Agnes Hale, Harriet Aston and Alex Potter, to name but a few from a worthy list. But, be warned, the series does feature some colourful personalities, so I wouldn't read it to your nippers or send it to your aged great aunt as a gift. The interaction between the protagonists and the humour that they sometimes generate, dry, and at other times farcical, is refreshing in what can only be described as their disturbing and surreal circumstances. Casting Couch is book five and the final volume in this esoteric quintet, preceded by Typecast by Booker Woodman, Re-cast, Cast-off, and Pseudo-castellated. I recommend this series to anybody who enjoys the 'odd' death, if only to gain a little understanding of what to expect if they too find themselves on the... Casting Couch
