Multi-instrumentalist Aryeh Frankfurter has made a name for himself in the Celtic music community for his ethereal harp-playing and lush recordings. Here he presents several traditional airs rendered sweetly and with a touch of melancholy. The album opener, "Ta Me Mo Shui," (famously covered by Clannad in the early 1980s) is almost overwhelming in its emotional intensity, weaving hope and sadness into a wistful fabric of sound. There is also a whimsicality to Frankfurter's playing, best exemplified by the sweet tumbling melody of "The Butterfly." And the delightful, piano-driven "Scottish Fisherman's Song for Attracting Seals," reminds us that Celtic music is not just for the Irish--or for humans.
