In 1993, the reunited "classic" lineup of
Deep Purple
toured just long enough to record this live album, before guitarist
Ritchie Blackmore
remembered why he hated the other members in the first place and bailed again. As the aging
machine continues to chug away, fans are thrust this leaky live-preserver. Do we really need to hear this once-proud lineup again going through the tired motions of "Highway Star," "Speed King," and "Child In Time?" To be fair, the group turns heads with what appears, at first, to be a rejuvenating revision of "Smoke On The Water."
Blackmore
launches into a mean, dirty riff, but the whole mess degenerates into a 10-minute jam complete with audience call and response. ~ Roch Parisien
