Excerpt from Daily Bible Illustrations, Vol. 4: Being Original Readings for a Year, on Subjects From Sacred History, Biography, Geography, Antiquities, and Theology; Especially Designed for the Family Circle; Solomon and the Kings Tm: Volume now presented completes the Illustrations founded upon the Historical Books of the Old Testament. The greater number of persons, and the larger variety of inel dents, comprised in the portion of Holy Scripture to which the present Volume is appropriated, impart to it a somewhat distino tive character, in the diversity of the subjects which it embraces. The opening breadth of the political relations and circumstances, has caused the Author's special attention to be given to what may be called the philosophy of Hebrew history, and to the develop ment of the principles of religious and social action. This, as usual in the present work, has been attempted less by discussion than by the mode of expository statement in which the facts have been set forth, and by which the Author has been enabled to pro duce, in an unpretending form, some of the best results of ex tended researches.
