The volume "The contribution of Asia Minor to the cultural and intellectual history of the Greco-Roman Antiquity" presents the proceedings of a conference celebrating the 120-year anniversary of the Kleinasiatische Kommission of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, which was held in Vienna in November 2010. It focuses on Greco-Roman Asia Minor but takes also aspects of the (cultural) history of other peoples in Asia Minor (Hittites, Lydians, Lycians) into consideration. The time frame thus ranges from the 2nd Millennium BC to late antiquity, but has a strong emphasis on the Hellenistic and Roman periods. According to the scientific tradition of the Kleinasiatische Kommission the volume has a strong epigraphic orientation, but it also contains articles that deal mainly with literary texts and/or archaeological sources. This publication is devoted to the cultural and intellectual history of ancient Anatolia in the broadest sense as well as the cultural influence and impact of Asia Minor, it addresses therefore issues of religious history, historiography, mythology, economic history, military history, local and administrative history, ancient medicine, historical geography, philosophy and rhetoric.
