Graduating from the Justice Program, young Max Mowers finally realizes his dream of becoming a superhero, reaping the perks that came with being a sidekick. But his achievement is short-lived as his mentor, Chongo the Jungle King, is killed in an accident. As Mighty Mantis, he is forced to try-out for other teams and mentors, hoping to find a proper fit to continue his career. His journey takes him to a brutal gameshow in Japan, and even to a renegade team in the Philippines, where he quickly learns that there's more to being a hero than just wearing a mask and doing what's right. But throughout his travels, he continuously sees mysterious visions of a battered superhero stepping out of a light and asking him for help. He ultimately learns that the man is Captain Fabulous, one of a handful of champions who vanished a decade before while aiding an alien race. Those heroes are alive, it turns out, and are in need of saving! Leading a band of misfits called The Disposables, Max must now travel across the galaxy to rescue his fallen comrades from an advancing horde of aliens. But there is more to their disappearance than was previously thought, leading Max to uncover a magical truth that can shake the Justice Program to its core-and ultimately destroy all its heroes. Can Mighty Mantis save the Justice Program...from itself?
