Am 25. Februar 1947 löste der Alliierte Kontrollrat mit dem Gesetz Nr. 46 den Staat Preußen auf. Dieser Auflösungsbeschluss reichte weit über seine vordergründig rein destruktiven Wirkungen hinaus. Mit langem Atem ebnete er den Weg für die Vollendung der Deutschen Einheit im Rahmen einer europäischen Lösung der historischen deutschen Frage.
