Liska knows that magic is an abomination and that those who practice it are monsters. She has done everything in her power to suppress her powers, but the consequences of her actions have been dire. Desperate to get rid of magic, Liska flees the small town where she lives and enters the dangerous forest of spirits; a place plagued by demons where she intends to find the mythical fern flower, since plucking it will allow her to make a wish with which to renounce her powers. Anyone who goes in search of said flower ends up suffering indescribable horrors. So, when Liska falls into the clutches of Leszy, the demon who guards the forest, making a deal with him seems a better option than death: in exchange for the fern flower and his wish, he will have to spend a year at his side. After being dragged into the Leszy's dilapidated mansion, Liska soon discovers something disturbing: she is not the first person to make a similar deal with the forest guardian, and all of her predecessors have disappeared under mysterious circumstances. If Liska is to return to her home alive after the year, she must unravel the tangle of secrets of her taciturn host and confront the ghosts of her past, both literally and figuratively. Because something deadly and ruthless is awakening in the forest. Even the Leszy fears him... and the only way to defeat him is for Liska to embrace that monstrous version of herself that she has always feared becoming.
