"EMP: The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" begins in rural costal Georgia in the fall 2013. Two retired couples join forces and begin a self-education process regarding the physical nature of electromagnetic pulse (EMP). They quickly learn EMPs affecting Earth's electrical infrastructure can be generated by natural events occuring near the surface of our sun. More worrysome, however, they discover an adversary of the United States may be attempting to create a powerful man-made EMP that would descimate the electrical infrastructure for the entire U.S. This would destroy our nation's status as a global superpower, as well as result in the eventual death of a large percentage of our population. Dialogues among the novel's characters are written using layman's terms. This affords a nonscience-minded reader an oportunity to understand exactly what an EMP is. A reader will also learn of protective measures that can be taken to survive such an event. As the novel's characters are learning about EMP, many readers will also be learning about it for themselves.
