English summary: Europe is made up of all the traditions in philosophy, religion, science, art and literature whose origins rest in the Greek and Roman antiquity. Although antiquity marks the start of the development of European identity, it is present in all periods of European history. At first, the modern world appears to attempt to engage the cultural achievements of antiquity through imitation but also the discovery of its paths takes place in an ongoing conflict with the Old World: modernity always defines itself through a retrospective on antiquity. We are only able to be good Europeans, if we have an understanding of antiquity, which is the example or counterpoint of the current state of the modern. The contributions in this work, "Europe between Antiquity and the Modern," are derived from fields of philosophy, literary studies, and philology, and offer as a unifying theme a variety of European perspectives that imply looking back is also a way to look forward. German description: Europa verdankt sich all den Traditionen in Philosophie, Religion, Wissenschaft, Kunst und Literatur, deren Ursprunge in der griechischen und romischen Antike liegen. Obschon der Anfang fur die Auspragung einer europaischen Identitat, ist die Antike in allen Epochen der europaischen Geschichte prasent. Zunachst scheint die moderne Welt zu versuchen, die kulturellen Leistungen der Antike durch Nachahmung zu erreichen. Aber auch die Entdeckung eigener Wege vollzieht sich in standiger Auseinandersetzung mit der alten Welt: Modernitat definiert sich immer in Ruckbindung an die Antike. Gute Europaer konnen wir nur sein, wenn wir ein Wissen von der Antike haben, die das Vor- oder Gegenbild der jeweiligen Moderne ist. Dem Ziel, 'Europa zwischen Antike und Moderne' nachzuspuren, dienen die aus den Bereichen der Philosophie, Literaturwissenschaft und Philologie stammenden Beitrage, die bei aller Verschiedenheit die europaische Perspektive eint, die den Blick zuruck ebenso impliziert wie den Blick voraus.
