The syndicated science fiction television series (airing in the U.S. on the cable network) employed very different musical approaches to its first two seasons, as revealed on this soundtrack album, which features music from each group of episodes. The Australian composing team , consisting of , , and , handled the first season. Their idea of the music of outer space turned out to be multicultural, but not otherworldly. Beginning with the pop/rock style of they employed such exotic but familiar influences as dance music ( ), Indian raga ( ), and Middle Eastern music ( ), all noticeably earthbound. , who took over scoring the show for its second season, was no more inventive. In fact, he trucked in typical cliches and conventions derived from ' scores, and in turn from early serials like .
