developed the songs that make up in New York, then brought them to life in a beach-side house in Marin County, California, along with help from percussionist and multi-instrumentalist . While this is the most collaborative record has produced under her own name, it's also more reflective of her own spiritual quest than anything else she's released. The songs are about gazing inward in order to find one's true self and recognize one's power, yet also acknowledging the importance of living in the moment and working with the situation at hand. The songs feel both composed and improvised, with introspective lyrics accompanying spontaneous rhythms. The mellow yet driving indie pop of "Corsican Shores" is one of the album's breeziest and most immediate moments, and contains some of its most searching lyrics. "It Was Me" is on a similar trajectory, but it's tenser and more determined, feeling like there's a bit more fire in its soul. "Saturnine Night" has a charging Motorik rhythm and gorgeous vocal harmonies, which mesh well with the sparse but illuminating effects. "The Illuminator" is longer and more hypnotic, with spoken words about various powers joining tooting flutes and percussive flourishes over a locked-in drumbeat. The dark, ethereal folk of "Monk's Robes" and "Waterlily" both recall 's more atmospheric, drumless 2017 release , while "Devil's Market" is more of a bohemian stroll. is filled with insightful, poetic lyrics that reward attention, but the overall vibe of the album is best suited for a more meditative, perhaps semi-conscious state, allowing the sounds and rhythms to wash over you. ~ Paul Simpson
