This catalog accompanies the exhibition at Hauser & Wirth West Hollywood. The book is lavishly illustrated and includes foldouts of artwork details. An essay by Dorothy Price of the Courtauld Institute focuses on the dialogue between Bowling’s and Turner’s work. Bowling’s invention of what Price calls "a new sublime" is subsequently explored through the link between Blackness and the sublime. This is Hauser & Wirth Publishers’ third book on Bowling; all three have been designed by Swiss designer Roland Brauchli, whose feel for the scale and spirit of the artist’s recent work is reflected here with large details that allow readers to get close to the washes, layers and agglomerations of the artist’s canvases. The volume’s yellow cloth spine is a nod to the marouflage that often borders his paintings.
