Having scored a substantial level of success with the first
Freestyle Heaven
album in 1999, the
SPG
label returned with not one but two volumes in 2001, both released in September of that year. And, like most sequels,
Vol. 3
indeed reprises the formula that proved so successful on the first album. In particular, the style is not so much
freestyle
in the classic, traditional view of the style, but rather a more polished update incorporating
progressive
elements and plenty of
trance
-like synth riffs. In essence, it's
synthesized with late-'90s
music -- a trendy blend that is more of the moment than timeless. If you're both an admirer of
and
, then you might want to check this album out, even though it's not a particularly stellar collection and doesn't feature any prominent artists. ~ Jason Birchmeier
