The fourth book in the Canadian series includes discussion of Alberta's geologic history, stratigraphy, and tectonics beginning with the Canadian Shield, the regional tectonic summary, the Hearne Province, the Southern Interior Plains, Phanerozoic cover including the Athabasca Polymorphic Terrane, the Sauk Sequence, the Hume-Dawson Sequence, and western platform, basins, reefs, Pallister Sequence, and a summary of transgression, regression, and tectonism effects. Stratigraphic discussions focus on the Carboniferous, Permian, Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous deposits, closing out with the Tertiary and Quaternary Periods in Part I.
