The Ghost Story:
A numinous mystery-play whose meaning is always unclear? A riveting morality-play of warning whose significance is a bit easier grasped? A reminder that our lives as we presently know them do not last forever-and are often shorter than we ever imagined they would be? Or is the Ghost Story merely a spine-tingling Halloween and Christmas tradition? All of these are indeed applicable from story to story, but as with any parable-and the Ghost Story is certainly that-the responsibility of message acquisition lies with the hearer. So, be a doer of the word, and not a hearer only-likely on pain of a not-so-happy afterlife.
