Giovanni and Marco, a rabbit and a turtle, are friends who live in Venice, Italy. They enjoy pretending they are gondoliers on the Grand Canal so one day they decide to become real gondoliers and open a business giving tour rides to their animal friends.
Their first tour starts out well but then quickly takes a turn for the worse when other large gondolas on the water overwhelm them. They become frightened and are relieved to be rescued by a friendly gondolier who tows them to calmer water.
Giovanni and Marco learn that they need to use the canal in the early morning hours, when it is safe and calm, before the real gondolas and gondoliers come out. They change their tour business into 'Sunrise Canal Tours' to the delight of their animal friends.
