The numbers are hefty. A $19.4 trillion federal deficit: these days a trillion a year is the norm. Over half a trillion dollars leave the U.S. annually in our trade deficit, while foreign companies in our country take home $1.4 trillion in profit every year. Our car companies have a dismal 7% of our market, whereas U.S. car manufacturing by U.S. companies on U.S. soil was one of our greatest strengths in the roaring fifties and sixties. 22 million non-citizens live among us, receiving education and health care, competing for low-paying service jobs, since better-paying manufacturing jobs have evaporated, and relying, as so many citizens are, on food stamps, subsidized housing, and welfare checks. 80% of middle class Americans are struggling to avoid the slide downward, often just a paycheck away. It is precisely because the Constitution has been ignored since 1974 that we are in this mess. It is well past time for a correction.
