Wheelus Air Base was originally a bomber base in Libya that in 1943 was known as Mellaha. The USAAF and the British Army & RAF joined forces at that time until 1945. This book is the history of how Wheelus Air Base, from 1945 until 1970, would continue to serve the free world throughout the bulk of the cold war. This isn't just a story about American history, it's a story about our heroes, the ones we honor and the ones we mourn. This story also includes the lives of the dependent children while there and the history of the on-going reunions for both the ex-Servicemen/women and the ex-Students.
As you read this book, my hope is for those that were actually there to be able to reimagine your experiences and for those that were never there, to use your imagination.
