HASAN SIJZI DEHLAVI Selected Poems Translation & Introduction Paul Smith Hasan Sijzi Dehlavi (1253-1328) was a close friend of the great Amir Khusrau and he himself achieved greatness as a poet and Sufi. In his youth although he belonged to a prominent family he worked as an apprentice in a bakery where he met Khusrau who took him to meet his master the Sufi Spiritual Master Nizam ud-din Auliya of the Chishti order. He composed over 800 ghazals, being influenced by Sadi he began to be called the 'Sadi of Hindustan'. His ghazals carried usually only one theme and were simple and natural in their language, using words that were commonly used. In his Divan of 10,000 couplets many qit'as and ruba'is are on love.
