"Heart of the Unsung" is a Native American survival/adventure/thriller. Cut off from anything south of the Arctic Circle from an asteroid collision, this continuing story from "Song of the Unsung" pits man against man and man against nature in one of the most unforgiving environments on the planet. The continued battle to survive with little except ingenuity and tried and true methods of the Inupiat Eskimos is tested against an increasingly hard to attain food supply and an insane Air Base commander who wants the oil of Prudhoe Bay for military purposes. He is willing to kill to get it. The two main characters, an Eskimo village leader and a security chief from Prudhoe Bay, have long-since learned that there is no such thing as letting their guards down. If it isn't the elements, it's the bears. If not the bears, it's the mentally unstable Base commander. If not him, it's the threat of the toxic asteroid debris cloud migrating north. Throughout the story, allies are acquired from aspects of the military and play important roles in the defense of the North Slope of Alaska. Even then, the burgeoning threat of a nuclear strike from a U.S. Air Base becomes a matter that must be dealt with on the Base commander's home turf, hundreds of miles away in Greenland. What the protagonists want is simple: to start a new life under Constitutional principles in what remains of America -- if the debris cloud stays clear and a nuclear catastrophe is averted. What choice is left but to live life one day at a time and handle the lethal challenges as they arise? It won't be easy, but the Inupiat way will be the key.
