Botalia Ulton, 24yo daughter to highly revered Scholars, lives out her exile on an island, isolated from society. Despite being unable to partake in the scientific community she once dreamed of joining, Botalia conducts experiments on the island and works everyday to train in the practice of life force. Her isolation ends when Tanten Flynn, an ex-Council member of the Magistrate Association, visits her on the island. He tells her of the schism occurring within the Magistrate Association. The news calls it a 'War of Science versus Magic.' He offers her an invitation: Break the exile to form an alliance and assist in leading his team to victory. Botalia denies his request, not wishing to work alongside a group she deems corrupt. Tanten's orphaned son arrives on the island a few days later, begging to be the apprentice of Botalia. Despite the odd coincidence, Botalia accepts. When assassins and an old friend-turned-convict, sneak onto the island, Botalia realizes there is much more to the puzzle than she originally suspected. Botalia must come to terms with a past she attempted to bury, learn to control her life force and the beast within her, and break the terms of her exile to protect the very association that sentenced her, even if it results in her own death.
