The greatest Teacher of all time used illustrations from daily life to anchor spiritual truth in the minds of His hearers. Following that teaching style, the author endeavors to use experiences, observations and events, some common, some rarely noticed, to segue into pathways of scriptural truth. Some of the meditations in this series look to the higher plane to which believers are called, following the thought in Psalm 123:1: "I will lift up my eyes on You, O Dweller in Heaven." Others look to the chaos through which our pilgrimage leads us, and to the sufficiency of God's grace, as the Apostle Paul admonished: "Then watch how carefully you walk, not as unwise, but as wise ones, redeeming the time, because the days are evil." Still others take that backward glance, considering with thankful hearts the plight from which we have been rescued, as the prophet Isaiah wrote: "Hear Me, pursuers of righteousness, seekers of Jehovah: Look to the rock from which you were cut, and to the hollow of the pit from which you were dug." As you read, be encouraged, be edified, be admonished, but, as the Apostle Paul mentioned, be Berean: "And these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, for they received the Word with all readiness, daily examining the Scriptures if these things are so." These meditations are hors d'oeuvres. The banquet is in the Word.
