Officer Joe Kott settled into his cruiser prepared for another long and tedious midnight shift in rural Red Hook, Illinois. He planned on spending this night like he had spent so many nights before; smoking cigarettes, drinking coffee and struggling to stay awake as he listened to the time travelers and other lunatics on The Todd Zeelander Radio Show. But a killer driving a dark blue 1970 Mustang Boss 302 alters his plans, and before day breaks, Joe's squad car is found abandoned.
An empty squad car, a mysterious hole in the middle of a field, and a gifted young man are the only leads the Red Hook Police Department have to try and find their missing brother and an escaped killer.
Meanwhile, Joe is left to find his way home through a perilous, post-apocalyptic world that can't possibly exist. With the help of an old lawman named Alistair Woodbridge, Joe just might make it back from this foreign but familiar world in time to recapture a dangerous psychopathic killer.
