1700s Scottish Highlands, Sir William Gordon was just proclaimed Earl of Huntings. Nervously hosting his first major event, William meets the beautiful but a bit too young, Lady Rose. William quickly falls for the shy, innocent lass, but he lets her go knowing at 16 she is too young.
Years later Sir William is called into service by the king. Heading south into England he must rescue a Lady. She has been kidnapped, and brutally attacked by a lowlands chieftain. William discovers during the rescue that this lassie is the same one he has been dreaming about.
Rose too has dreamed of Sir William. However, with her reputation in tatters and possibly with child, Rose feels the Earl of Huntings is beyond her reach. Rose battles depression and must come to terms with her circumstances.
William finds he must return to the highlands and fulfill his duties as the Earl, while trying to convince Rose she is worthy of his love.
