Beautiful and independently wealthy Eve (Corinne Clery) and her alcoholic, failed writer husband, Walter Mancini (Franco Nero), make the mistake of stopping for a hitchhiker while on a driving vacation through the U.S. The stranger is Adam Konitz (David Hess), a bank robber on the run with a suitcase containing two million dollars. It's not long before Adam decides to have his way with Eve, which means he has to do something with Walter. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to Adam, his two former partners in crime are on his trail, and they're not happy he double-crossed them. Eve and Walter become hostages and know they must escape because Adam is not going to leave any witnesses alive.
