ABOUT THE STORY
This is a true story. I started writing this story in late May 2022, when our neighbors brought home a new puppy. They called him Jake. When we introduced our Honey Bear to Jake she seemed to have found a long awaited friend. Honey Bear has always been isolated and seldom saw other dogs. This was her new focus in life.
She sat by the patio door most of the day waiting for Jake to come out to play. She would go outside and run to the fence. Jake would drag his valet to the fence and promptly stick his body through the balusters to get closer to her. They were just a couple of short tail dogs that found true friendship.
Unfortunately their friendship only lasted about a month when Honey Bear fell ill. With blurry eyes, I felt compelled to finish the story. But could not end it on a sad note. Along came Cupcake as if he were a gift from Honey Bear. It felt like she sent a son to console the family.
This did not start out as a sad story and did not end on a sad note. We shared a life of affection and adventure for 10 years. Honey Bear was a blessing to come into our lives and we will remember her as we remember Kandie, Bongo, Twizzler, Benji, Sweetie Cakes and Cosmo.
As of the printing of this book, Jake still comes to the fence looking for Honey Bear, and oddly enough, Cupcake sits by that same patio door watching Jake run along the fence.
