Several years have passed and Shades is now about to start its fifth and final season on TV. Alex Keating has spent this time learning all he can about the vampires of Lilith's family and is about to make a decision that will change his life forever. As the characters in the show have risen to the challenges presented to them, so has Alex, but if he thought everything would settle if he chose to be like Lilith, nothing could be further from the truth. Staying alive is proving to be the biggest challenge of all. In the TV series, Jonathan and Kate are going through similar changes in their relationship. Free of his sire's influence and now aware of Rufus Henri's betrayal of trust, Jonathan is ready to cut his ties, but then Henri endangers the life of a mortal friend as he seeks revenge for his reversal of fortune. He pursues the vampires to their new location in Las Vegas but the tables are now turned and Jonathan finally becomes the master of his destiny.
