I wrote this book out of a broken heart due to what's happening here and in other parts of the world. It feels like there are too many cases where people are getting hurt or even killed, or facing terrible injuries, just because they had an interaction with the police. We can fix this problem by making some changes, both for the police officers and the people in the community. If the police give clear verbal instructions and allow enough time, the person they're dealing with is more likely to cooperate and not resist arrest. This can help prevent police brutality and save lives. However, if the person still resists arrest despite the verbal orders, the police can use a Taser instead of resorting to deadly gunshots to protect lives. Police can also use techniques to de-escalate situations without anyone getting hurt. "Regardless of a person's skin color, ethnicity, gender, or where they live, no one should have to die, be treated brutally, or face permanent injuries just because they had an encounter with the police, and this includes police officers themselves."
