Was God involved in the founding of the United States of America and in providing all freedoms we have today, including freedom of religion? What did the Founders actually say about God and what did they pray to God? The author presents the God sayings and prayers of the Founders from their own original writings. Join in the drama of each Founder's life as he or she shares an intimate and personal conversation with God and pours out their innermost thoughts in seeking divine guidance. Live with the Founders as they reveal about their inner most hopes and fears for the future of their families and their country through the era of the Revolutionary War, the writing of the Declaration of Independence, the adoption of the United States Constitution and on into the early years of the 1800's. The author has provided scripture verses at the beginning of the life story of each Founder. Possibly some of these same scriptures did undergird hope and faith for the founding generation as they do for us today. Share in the love of freedom and dreams for the future of such persons as George and Martha Washington, John and Abigail Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Noah Webster and many others as you read in the present tense about their love for liberty and zeal to obtain it. Questions for reflection are included at the end of each chapter to emphasize important faith statements and God moments in the chapter. The Author Barbara Schenkel has written curriculum for bible study groups, prayer and the inner life, and church history. She has worked in ministry for the United Methodist Church, as well as in social work and nursing. She is a graduate of Iliff School of Theology, and Arizona State University. She enjoys the Southwest and lives in Phoenix, Arizona.
